Coffee Pods Or K Cups? How Do You Decide?
By Frederick D
Coffee pods and K-Cups. In this world we live in, when it comes to your choices for one-cup coffee makers, those are your two options. The company Keurig makes coffee makers that use K-cups and the machines made by Senseo and a few other manufacturers use coffee pods.
The attraction of single serve brewers is that you get exactly one cup of coffee. Both K-Cups and coffee pods make this possible by holding just the right amount of ground coffee. All you have to do to get your perfect cup of java is put in the holder either a K-Cup or a coffee pod, close the lid, press a button and like magic you have you coffee with out all the hassle connected with traditional coffee makers. So which one should you use? A K-Cup or a coffee pod?
Like everything else, each format has their pros and cons. For example, K-Cups are sealed for freshness with out any additional packaging. On the other hand, coffee pods have to be packaged individually in order to keep them fresh.
Another difference between the two formats is the convenience. K-Cups are as easy as dropping one into the holder, and coffee pods require more care when you are placing it in the holder so that there will not be any leakage during brewing.
Also along the same lines of convenience is the clean-up difference. K-Cups, when brewing is done, are clean and ready for the garbage. They are dry and easy to remove. Whereas coffee pods act much like a tea bag, once you take them out of the holder they are wet and hot.
There is also a price difference between your two options. K-Cups tend to me more expensive then the alternative of coffee pods. Although for the coffee pods, there is a wider selection of coffees to choose from.
Both options deliver an excellent cup of coffee, but as you can see they each have their own advantages and disadvantages. If you need some help deciding, why not look at the brewers themselves. If you like the look of the Keurig brewers better than the stylish Senseo brewers, take this into consideration when making your decision. Either way you are getting a great single cup of coffee, without the hassle associated with the normal size brewers.
